Tyra Toston Gross, PhD, MPH is a co-presenter of this year’s Breastfeeding Grand Rounds webcast, hosted by the University at Albany College of Integrated Health Sciences Center for Public Health Continuing Education. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, December 18 at 10 a.m.-noon ET.
The title of the webcast is “The Impact of Social Media on Breastfeeding/Chestfeeding.” Dr. Gross and co-presenter Kimberly Seals Allers will cover:
- How the feeding choices and mental health of parents are influenced by the content they see on social media.
- Predatory marketing tactics of non-World Health Organization-code compliant companies.
- Strategies for professionals to utilize social media to reach out to parents to promote evidence-based information about breastfeeding/chestfeeding.

Tyra Toston Gross, PhD, MPH, is a faculty fellow with our MCH Faculty Development Fellowship Program at Diverse Institutions and an associate professor of public health at Xavier University of Louisiana. Her research expertise is in MCH disparities using community-engagement and strengths-based approaches. Her current research projects include exploring the health of Black postpartum women in Louisiana, impacts of climate change and natural disasters on maternal and child health, and smoking cessation needs for low-income pregnant women.
