Dr. Arden Handler, a member of the National MCH Workforce Development Center’s Pipeline Team overseeing the Title V Internship Program, has been named a University Scholar by the University of Illinois System. Dr. Handler is one of of six University Scholars being recognized across all University of Illinois campuses.

Along with her work for the Center, Dr. Handler is the Director of the Center of Excellence (CoE) in Maternal and Child Health, and a professor in the Community Health Sciences division of the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) School of Public Health.

The University Scholar award recognizes outstanding members of the faculty across all University of Illinois campuses. Dr. Handler was honored for her more than 30 years of applied MCH scholarship and teaching, her research-driven advocacy work, and her leadership and service to the UIC’s CoE and to the University of Illinois Chicago’s School of Public Health and Division of Community Services.

“Dr. Handler is a national treasure and well deserving of this honor. Her scholarship and exceptionally strong commitment to women, children and families has contributed to a capable, committed and diverse workforce that is better able to understand and work for and with families across the country.   It has been our honor and pleasure to work with her in service to a stronger MCH workforce ready to overcome today’s challenges and meet those coming our way,” said Dr. Oscar Fleming, interim director of the National MCH Workforce Development Center.
