The Academic-Practice Partnership
The Academic-Practice Partnership (APP) seeks to bring academia, Title V MCH, and state and local public health together to create opportunities for academics, students and practitioners to learn from one another and develop mutually beneficial collaborations. Working collaboratively and utilizing each other’s expertise and strengths, APPs can address the complex challenges of the MCH in the 21st century.
There are a number of components to the APP work at the National MCH Workforce Development Center, including the APP Newsletter; the longstanding Title V MCH Summer Internship for under- and graduate level MCH students from Universities with the following HRSA MCHB Training Programs; the latest News, Literature and Best Practice on APPs in the United States; and Resources, Tools, & Case Studies.

Title V MCH Internship Program
Each summer, the National MCH Workforce Development Center’s Title V MCH Internship Program supports teams of MCH students to participate in internships in state and jurisdictional Title V programs. Each two-person team consists of a graduate MCH student from Universities with a HRSA MCHB Training Program [Centers of Excellence in MCH Education, Science, and Practice (CoE) and an MCH student from either an Maternal and Child Health Leadership, Education, and Advancement in Undergraduate Pathways (LEAP) Training Program or the MCH Public Health Catalyst Program (Catalyst)].
The aim of the Title V MCH Internship Program is to provide future MCH professionals with experience working in state and jurisdictional Title V agencies, with mentorship and guidance from Title V agency preceptors. The ‘team’ aspect of the program allows students to engage and contribute together under the guidance of the agency preceptor and also to learn new knowledge
and skills from each other.
